Earlier when Rashmika broke up with her boyfriend Rakshith Shetty, Vijay was working with Rashmika on Geetha Govindam. During an interview, the actor said, "I am very happy to act with her. But it is not good to entertain other things that hurt someone else. I personally know about thee and know how much pain they have experienced.”

Earlier in November last year, Vijay Deverakonda in his Instagram wrote, "I just want you to know I am thinking of and missing you all today and I also miss our film." The superstar tagged all the other co-stars and crew of his movie along with Rashmika Mandanna in the post. The actress could not stop herself from reacting, "Awww."
Prior to that in April last year, the actor wished Rashmika a happy birthday in a unique way. Vijay Deverakonda in his post says, "#HappyBirthdayDearLilly." Incidentally, Lilly is the name of the girl whose character Rashmika portrayed in Dear Comrade.

Vijay and his Dear Comrade team dedicated the song of the movie to Rashmika and released it on her birthday. In his sweet birthday message, the actor wrote, "Dear Lilly, We were just kidding, don't be upset with us.
