Twinkle Khanna was reluctant to work with Akshay Kumar but did it for Rajesh Khanna; checked his DNA before marriage!

Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna's love story wasn’t born out of fairytale sparks but practicality and chance. Their paths first crossed on film sets, where affection gradually took root. They tied the knot on January 17, 2001, and despite their contrasting temperaments, the couple’s bond thrives on humour, trust, and mutual respect. Interestingly, Twinkle had initially been reluctant to work with Akshay, she only agreed because her father, Rajesh Khanna. Surprisingly, before giving a nod for marriage, she got Akki's DNA checked.

A Film Flop That Sealed Their Fate

Akshay and Twinkle’s chemistry blossomed as co-stars, leading to a quiet wedding after Twinkle joked she would only marry him if her film Mela failed, and destiny played along. Over two decades later, their marriage continues to capture fans’ admiration for its balance of love and laughter.

During a recent episode of Two Much With Kajol and Twinkle, where Saif Ali Khan also appeared, Akshay joined the conversation and offered fans a nostalgic look into their early days together.

A Father’s Influence and a Candid Confession

Twinkle revealed, “I actually met him because of my dad (Rajesh Khanna),” "My dad had an old producer friend who insisted, ‘You have to work in this movie because I’ve given my word.’ I didn’t want to work with him at that point, but I did,” she said.

Further, Twinkle confessed on the show that she was “a bit snobby,” particularly since Akshay’s career was facing setbacks with consecutive flops.

Saif playfully teased, “You’ve always given some flops and then super hits, so who cares?” 

The DNA Check Before ‘I Do’

Akshay then surprised everyone by revealing Twinkle’s methodical approach before saying yes.

Akki said, “Aadmi jab shaadi karta hai toh do kundliyaan milata hai. She didn’t believe in that. You know what she did? She checked if my father had any kind of disease- she removed all the genetic and DNA background till my mamas, chachas, and chachis. And then, and only then, she decided that okay, I can marry him.”
