A source told Zoom that a strong antagonist is central to the story of Tumbbad 2. The makers are looking for someone who can bring menace along with emotional depth. The goal is to craft a character capable of matching Sohum Shah’s intensity on screen.

Akshaye has earned praise for his performances in Drishyam 2, Section 375, and most recently Dhurandhar, which expanded his popularity among moviegoers.

Meanwhile, Nawazuddin is widely recognised for his impactful roles in Gangs of Wasseypur and Raman Raghav 2.0, where he portrayed complex and unpredictable characters.

Sohum Shah’s Expanding Vision

For Sohum Shah, Tumbbad 2 is not merely a sequel but a significant creative step forward. As both actor and producer under Sohum Shah Films, he is expected to preserve the tone and mythological richness that defined the original film.

The project is likely to go on floors soon. With stronger financial backing and the possibility of a powerful antagonist joining the cast, expectations around the sequel continue to rise.

Although there has been no official confirmation about the casting, the ongoing buzz indicates that Tumbbad 2 could explore darker and more intense themes than its predecessor.

Tumbbad’s Journey from Acclaim to Commercial Success

When Tumbbad first released in 2018, it received critical acclaim but performed modestly at the box office. Over time, positive word of mouth and streaming exposure helped it build a dedicated fan base, eventually earning cult status. The 2024 re-release changed its commercial trajectory.

Audiences returned to theatres in significant numbers, giving the film the box-office success that had eluded it during its original run.
