How the Incident Unfolded
The episode took place on December 25 on X (formerly Twitter), when a user named Prasanna Sadeesh, operating under the handle ‘Mom Little King’, tagged GV Prakash Kumar in a distress message. The user shared a photograph of a woman, claiming she had raised him and his younger sister, and appealed for financial assistance for funeral expenses.
When the initial post at 11:12 am went unanswered, the user tagged the actor again at 1:59 pm, repeating the request. GV Prakash responded at 2:24 pm by asking for the person’s GPay number. Just four minutes later, at 2:28 pm, he transferred Rs 20,000 and shared a screenshot confirming the payment. The user publicly thanked the actor after receiving the money.
Social Media Flags the Scam
Soon after, other social media users began flagging the post as suspicious. What initially earned praise for the actor’s kindness quickly turned into concern. Users added context notes stating that the woman in the photograph had reportedly passed away in 2022 and that the post was being used to scam people.
Comments warning the actor flooded the post, with messages like “You got scammed ra” and “Blud got scammed publicly.” One user even claimed they too had sent money after hearing the same story.
