Bhansali, who is known for making unusual and different films like `Khamoshi: The musical`, `Black`, `Saawariya` and `Guzaarish` took a bold step by backing an out-an-out commercial entertainer film. And it paid off after the Akshay Kumar-Sonakshi starrer did a business of over Rs 100 crore at the boxoffice.
"I am glad he made a change. It is always good to change...to connect with masses. And `Rowdy Rathore` is a big change, it was a hit. I am happy for him. After a long time he has connected with his masses," Bela told PTI in an interview.
The kind of films that Sanjay has made, he did not seem as someone who would subscribe to film like `Rowdy Rathore`. "I think there is nothing wrong in producing these films. It does not mean that he will stop making films the way he wants to. It is not that his passion, sincerity, music, poetry and all that will disappear from his films. He will go ahead and make better films than what he has made till now," Bela said.
"He is such a brave and strong man, despite whatever is written or told about him he comes out with outstanding films. I think people should stop listening to others and not go for his films. But people must decide for themselves.. to go and see his movies and then make their opinion," she said.
Bela is all praise for brother Sanjay and his style of film making. "His films speak poetry. I think `Guzaarish` and `Sawariya` were ahead of times. These two films are brilliant be it technically, music wise and all in areas. Maybe people will understand of these two films in today times," she said.
"He has made fabulous films, which are different. He is such a good filmmaker, you can`t write him off. He is creative person, he is best and finest directors of our country. I don`t think he will ever make a crap film," she added.
But Bela will be wearing director`s hat with `Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi`, a romantic-comedy about a 40-plus couple. It is obvious that her style of filmmaking is different from her brother Sanjay.
"I think everybody has their own vision. We think alike in many ways, we used to discuss narratives of his films together. In many ways we look at things in same manner. I made my film, a light-hearted one, different than what Sanjay does," she said.
"It is not that I can`t make films like he does, but I thought initially I should make something different than what Sanjay does," she said.
It was Sanjay while penning the script of `Shirin Farhad...` who felt that choreographer-turned-director Farah Khan and Boman Irani are the best choice for the lead roles. "He kept insisting Farah and Boman are the best choice. Also, he has written the script, his ideas and thoughts are always there," Bela said.
Bhansali is 49 and still single and his sister Bela thinks that the story that he has written for her directorial debut `Shirin Farhad...` is actually happening in her own house. "He is not married himself so we also have the same problem. My mother is always nagging him about marriage," she concluded.
