A Gritty Period Drama Rooted in History

Mounted on a grand canvas, Rana Baali is set in 19th-century India and draws inspiration from real historical events that took place between 1854 and 1878.

The intense glimpse presents a “cursed land” scarred by colonial exploitation, shedding light on the devastating effects of British policies during that period. Drought-stricken regions, harsh taxation and oppressive administration form the backdrop of the narrative.

The film references historical figures such as Sir Richard Temple and Sir Theodore Hector, portraying the human cost of imperial rule and the suffering endured by ordinary people under colonial dominance.

Vijay Deverakonda in a Fierce New Avatar

Vijay Deverakonda appears in a commanding and intense role as Rana Baali, anchoring the film’s emotional and political core. His rugged look and powerful screen presence suggest a character driven by resistance and survival.

Rashmika Mandanna plays Jayamma, a pivotal character in the story, while Hollywood actor Arnold Vosloo essays the antagonist Sir Theodore Hector, adding menace and weight to the conflict.

A Reunion of Successful Collaborators

Rana Baali marks Vijay Deverakonda’s third collaboration with Mythri Movie Makers after Dear Comrade and Khushi. It also reunites him with director Rahul Sankrityan following their successful film Taxiwaala. The project brings Vijay and Rashmika together once again after Geetha Govindam and Dear Comrade, reviving their popular on-screen pairing.
