Kingdom concluded on a gripping cliffhanger, leaving audiences eager to uncover what lay ahead for Vijay Deverakonda’s conflicted spy and the world he was pulled into. The ending sparked immediate curiosity about a sequel that could expand the film’s unfinished arc. However, those expectations have now been put to rest, as producer Naga Vamsi has officially confirmed that the sequel to Gowtam Tinnanuri’s Kingdom has been shelved.

Producer Avoids Hindsight Analysis

When asked whether Kingdom might have fared better as a standalone film instead of one building toward a sequel, Vamsi chose not to revisit the past.

He explained his reluctance to dissect the film’s journey, saying, “There is no point in talking about what happened because it’ll only hurt Gowtam. There’s nothing more to do now.”

The producer also declined to comment on the reasons behind the film’s underwhelming box office outcome.

Partnership with Gowtam Tinnanuri Remains Intact

Despite shelving Kingdom 2, Vamsi confirmed that his association with director Gowtam Tinnanuri is far from over. He revealed that they will collaborate again in the future and noted that the filmmaker is currently working on a project that explores a completely different creative space.

High-stakes Release That Fell Short

Kingdom hit theatres last July at a critical phase in Vijay Deverakonda’s career, following setbacks after Liger (2022). While the film generated strong buzz and drew mixed reviews, it concluded its run with approximately ₹82 crore worldwide.

The story followed Suri, a constable turned reluctant spy sent undercover to Sri Lanka. Featuring Satyadev, Venkitesh, and Bhagyashri Borse, the film ended on a cliffhanger after a devastating emotional turn.

What's Next For Vijay Deverakonda?

After The Family Star (2024) and a cameo in Kalki 2898 AD, Vijay Deverakonda returned to the big screen with Kingdom in 2025. He will next be seen in Rowdy Janardhana, directed by Ravi Kiran Kola, where he steps into the role of a rugged rowdy- a blood-soaked, lungi-clad look teased in the film’s first glimpse.
