Agastya Nanda, grandson of cinema icon Amitabh Bachchan, is preparing to step into theatres with his debut film Ikkis. Backed by Maddock Films and directed by Sriram Raghavan, the project was earlier locked for a December 5 release. The makers have now revised the plan, pushing the film’s theatrical arrival to January 1, 2026.

Rumours Swirl Around the Delay

Soon after the new date surfaced, speculation began doing the rounds. Trade circles linked the postponement to the dominant box office run of Dhurandhar and the highly anticipated global release of Avatar: Fire and Ash on December 19. The timing led many to assume a calculated retreat to avoid competition.

Big B Breaks His Silence

Amid growing conjecture, Amitabh Bachchan personally addressed the reason behind the shift. Taking to X on Thursday, December 18, the veteran actor dismissed box office theories and offered a rather unconventional explanation.

He wrote, “Ikkis was earlier set for the twenty-fifth (25), now it will be in the twenty-sixth (26), on the first (1st). Some astrology-knowing folks said, ‘Brother, the omen is good—keep moving, just keep moving.'” (in Hindi)

Dinesh Vijan’s Tried-and-Tested Playbook

For producer Dinesh Vijan, altering release calendars is not unfamiliar territory. In 2017, Hindi Medium- starring Irrfan Khan and Saba Qamar- shifted its release window after Baahubali 2 announced its date. A similar move was seen earlier this year when Chhaava, featuring Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna, avoided clashing with Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2.

The decision around Ikkis appears to follow the same cautious, impact-driven approach.

A War Hero’s Story at the Core

Ikkis is rooted in the events of the 1971 Indo-Pak War and chronicles the life of Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, India’s youngest Param Vir Chakra awardee. The film aims to bring a powerful chapter of military history to the big screen.

New Beginnings and Final Appearances

While Ikkis introduces Agastya Nanda and Akshay Kumar’s niece Simar Bhatia to theatrical audiences, it also carries emotional weight for another reason. The film marks the last on-screen appearance of veterans Dharmendra and Asrani, together, making it a significant cinematic moment across generations.
