As Bigg Boss 19 reaches its dramatic peak, accusations of 'nepotism' and 'favouritism' have grown louder-especially after host Salman Khan’s Weekend Ka Vaar interventions. Viewers allege that Salman’s measured defence of Amaal Mallik and his harsher treatment of other contestants have made the show appear partial, fuelling claims that certain participants are being protected.

Ashnoor Kaur: Slammed On Screen, Defended Online

A major flashpoint this week involved actor Ashnoor Kaur, who was labelled “arrogant” by Salman Khan after she asked Bigg Boss to replay a clip for clarity during the Amaal-Abhishek confrontation. Supporters insist Ashnoor merely sought transparency, while critics argue the host’s tone was unnecessarily harsh - sparking a wave of online debate and backlash.

Fans quickly rallied behind Ashnoor on social media, accusing the makers of unfairly targeting her. Many said Salman’s comments were “unprovoked” and “disrespectful,” turning the episode into one of the most discussed moments of the season.

The Amaal Mallik Angle and Perceived Favouritism

Critics also point to Salman’s continued defence of Amaal Mallik as evidence of bias. Viewers claim the host lets Amaal off lightly while reprimanding others more severely. The perception that Amaal- who hails from a film industry family, is being “protected” has reignited the nepotism debate.

Salman’s repeated rebukes aimed at contestants who confront Amaal have intensified the narrative that industry-connected participants are shielded. According to critics, such editorial choices and host behaviour undermine the core promise of fairness that reality TV is meant to uphold.

Social Media Erupts

Across X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and fan forums, reactions have ranged from mockery to outright outrage.

One user wrote, “Clearly Amaal came forward and pushed into Bajaj… Salman ke retirement ka time aa gaya hai!” (sic)

Another posted, “Worst episode ever… whitewashing Amaal. Just hand him the trophy already.” (sic)

Ashnoor’s supporters slammed Salman for 'unjust scolding' and accused the makers of scripting sympathy through selective editing.

One viral comment read, “Bhaang Pikar Aaye Hain,” a slang-laced retort used to criticise what fans saw as 'unfair targeting'.

Meanwhile, threads on IndiaForums described the Weekend Ka Vaar episode as “cruelly biased,” with several predicting that such open favouritism could impact the show’s TRP.

As one viewer summed it up, “Salman Khan is being fed a script by the channel… The neutral audience is fed up of this bias.” (sic)

The Bigger Picture

Reality TV thrives on the illusion of fairness. When audiences begin to sense partiality, trust erodes, and so does engagement. With Bigg Boss 19 now under fire for alleged bias and nepotism, the makers may need to introspect. For many fans, the real drama isn’t inside the house anymore; it’s about whether the show itself still plays fair.
