Released on October 27, 2000, Mohabbatein was not just a film - it was an emotion that resonated with an entire generation. Directed by Aditya Chopra, the movie beautifully captured the clash between discipline and love, embodied through Amitabh Bachchan’s authoritative Narayan Shankar and Shah Rukh Khan’s idealistic Raj Aryan.

Preeti Jhangiani’s Magical Debut

For Preeti Jhangiani, Mohabbatein marked a dream debut. Cast opposite Jimmy Shergill, she suddenly found herself working with two of the biggest stars in Indian cinema - Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan. During an old candid chat with Zoom, Preeti opened up about her admiration for Shah Rukh Khan.

When asked if she was an SRK fan while shooting for the film, she said, “Everybody is a Shah Rukh fan. There is no way we could not be a Shahrukh fan. He is so charming. He is a personality. When you first look at him, then you think he is not that impressive to look at initially. But when he actually comes and speaks to you, it's like you can look at no one else. He is so intelligent, he is so charming. It is hard for anybody to not look at him.”

Lessons in Humility from SRK

During another interview with Lallantop Cinema, Preeti recalled how working with the Pathaan actor became a life lesson in humility.

“Sometimes, I would see Shah Rukh Khan sitting on the side and talking to a spot boy and he would be asking him about his life and he would be sitting on the floor. There was no special chair for him with his name,” she shared.

She added what made his grounded nature even more remarkable.

“He never made us feel like we were working with a superstar because he was so in tune with us. He is a very charming person so he engages you very nicely. He went the extra mile for us and he would spend time with us. Even when he wanted to give us some suggestions, or some advice, he wouldn't frame it like an advice,” said Preeti.

Amitabh Bachchan’s Gentle Gesture

While SRK’s warmth made everyone comfortable, Preeti confessed she was intimidated by Amitabh Bachchan at first. During her conversatiin with Zoom, Preeti said, “I was a little intimidated by Mr. Amitabh Bachchan. On camera, I was always confident. Whenever I acted, modelled, even when I was young. I found it came naturally to me and I was more confident. But off-camera I was shy.”

Recalling a touching moment, she said, “I remember on the sets, it was quite cold when we were shooting. And I remember Mr. Amitabh Bachchan came and gave me a shawl to wear. I said no no, I can't take it. And Yash ji told me 'Listen, if Amitabh Bachchan gave me that shawl, I would take it, I would run home and I would not give it back to him.' And I regret it to date that you know, I'll take it now!”
