Rohit`s directorial debut, `Zameen` (2003), was a remake of Hollywood flick `Executive Decision`. The film failed at the box office.
His next film, `Golmaal` (2006) was a comedy, a remake of Malayalam film `Kakkakuyil`, which became a successful franchise in Hindi.
His recent hit `Singham` too was a remake of the 2010 Tamil film of the same name. "Those who make original films are very brave. I think I would never be able to make films like `Taare Zameen Par`, `Paa`, `Stanley Ka Dabba`, `Do Dooni Chaar`. I think one needs guts for that and I don`t have that.
I guess filmmakers like Amol Gupte, Habib Faisal and R Balki take more challenges," Shetty said at an event celebrating 100 years of cinema at Whistling Woods.
"I know few people for whom `Golmaal` was trash and so is `Singham`. That is why I don`t talk about the hard work put in (for remakes)," he said.
His soon-to-be-released film, `Bol Bachchan`, a rom-com starring Ajay Devgn, Abhishek Bachchan, Asin and Prachi Desai, is inspired by the 1979 flick, `Gol Maal`. The film is expected to release on July 6.
