Fatima Sana Shaikh is once again making headlines, not just for her upcoming romantic drama Gustaakh Ishq alongside Vijay Varma- set for release on November 28, 2025- but also for the off-screen spark the duo shares. “I Was Doing Something That Wasn’t Right”: Fatima Opens Up
During a recent interaction, Fatima dropped a striking admission: she “was doing something that wasn’t right” and has been battling a “toxic relationship” that isn’t with a person- but with food.
The Hidden Battle Behind the Screen
Fatima revealed that she is an extremist when it comes to body-discipline routines. She shared that she struggled with bulimia for nearly a year, admitting her understanding of dieting was extremely rigid and she lacked control over her eating patterns.
Her confessions became even more emotional when she told Rhea Chakraborty, “I have a toxic relationship with food.” Living With Constant Guilt Fatima continued, “I still happens to me. And I’m hating myself because I have no control. I’m just eating, and I am upset. Why can’t I stop? I have no control.”
Leftover Habits From Dangal Days
Recalling her transformation for Dangal, she spoke about her intense routine- three hours of training daily, 1.5 hours at the gym, and a calorie-heavy 2,500-3,000 calorie diet to gain weight. Even after filming, the habit of overeating stayed, leaving her feeling unhealthy, stuck, and unbalanced.
When Sanya Malhotra Stepped In
Fatima confessed she would constantly think about food.
“Sanya (Malhotra) knew what was happening, and she was like, 'I know what you are doing.' At first I was like, 'No. I am not doing anything.' Then she said, 'I just want you to know that I know.' And then I felt shame. I felt that I was doing something that was not right. It's damaging me, my mental health," she said.
A Love-hate Bond With Her Own Image
The actress further shared that her relationship with herself has been equally complicated. She admits she often feels pressured by her own expectations, saying she constantly thinks, “I have to look like this.”
