Bollywood actor Govinda is in the headlines after accidentally shooting himself. He suffered injuries in his leg after his revolver accidentally went off. Days after the incident, the actor is now discharged. His wife Sunita Ahuja and daughter Tina Ahuja were seen with him. Sunita has remained with Govinda throughout his ups and downs. They tied the knot in 1987 and Sunita was only 18 years old. However, did you know that Govinda called off their engagement for his one-sided love for an actress?
Yes, Govinda's one-sided love for this actress led to the end of his one-year-old secret relationship with Sunita.
Notably, Govinda made his debut with Love 86 and he became a star overnight. At that time, he was in a secret relationship with Sunita, who was 18 years old. They kept their relationship secret for around a year before tying the knot. However, during his relationship with Sunita, Govinda fell in love with his co-star Neelam. Govinda and Neelam paired in multiple movies which led him to develop a one-sided love for the actress.
During an interview with Stardust in 1990, Govinda confessed that even at one time he broke his engagement with Sunita as he wanted to marry Neelam. He also admitted to being 'very conscious' of Neelam as they were from different worlds.
Govinda said that they overcame the obstacles of their 'background and upbringing' and eventually, he started opening up to her.

The Bhagam Bhag actor said, “We became friends. And we had so many films together. We met so often, and the more I got to know her, the more I liked her.”
Further, he added, “She was the kind of woman any man would have lost his heart to. I lost mine."
Recalling about falling in love with Neelam and fighting with Sunita, Govinda added, "I asked Sunita to leave me. I broke off my engagement with her. And had Sunita not called me after five days and coaxed me into it again, I would probably have married Neelam.
However, he went on to add, “I wanted to marry her. And I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that.”
Soon, Govinda realised that Neelam wanted to focus on her career and was not keen to marry him.
"She wanted an intelligent, well-to-do, good-looking man as a husband. And I was anything but that. She belonged to the upper strata and I was a dehati, coming from a lower-middle-class family. We were poles apart in every way. We probably would never have been successful as a married couple. And maybe, Neelam realised that," said Govinda.
The Partner actor also said that he 'played dirty' with Neelam even after he got married to Sunita. He didn't reveal about his marriage.
Govinda is married to Sunita for over 35 years. They are parents to a son and daughter. On the other hand, Neelam has been married to actor Samir Soni for 13 years and are parents to a daughter.
