As per government sources, the move is expected to help around 17012 engineering and polytechnic students in the State.

It essentially means that the government will lose around Rs 5.10 crore, informed Skill Development and Technical Education Department.

Earlier in February, the Odisha government had waived off the hostel fees of government ITI students. The move was expected to benefit around 30000 ITI students in the State.

The announcement exempted students from paying the hostel fees of Rs 125 per month for the last nine months till December 2020 which effectively adds up to a total of Rs 1125.
