Bhubaneswar: At a time when crime against women and girl children has been on a rise in the State, another heinous incident has come to light from the Capital city. A young woman was killed today after being set on fire allegedly by her in-laws for dowry at Gokanpur village under Nandankanan police limits in Bhubaneswar.

As per sources, the victim, Rashmirekha, tied the knot with Asish Padhiari of Gokanpur village in 2017 and the couple had a six-month-old daughter.

The incident has sent shockwaves in the area while her family members have lodged a police complaint against her in-laws holding them responsible for their daughter’s death. The victim's family further alleged that her in-laws had been torturing her since marriage demanding more dowry and when their demand was not met they set her on fire.

Getting information, police rushed to the spot and seized the dead body. This apart, based on the complaint lodged by Rashmirekha's family, the cops have detained her husband, father-in-law, mother-in-law for interrogation.

“A case has been registered in this connection. The body has been sent for post mortem. Further investigation is on and we are interrogating her husband and in-laws,” informed a police official.
