A youth in Bhubaneswar was arrested by the Cyber Police on charges of doctoring a minor girl’s pictures and making them go viral on social media platforms.

The accused has been identified as one Mukesh Nayak from Samantarapur in Bhubaneswar.

As per reports, Nayak’s modus operandi involved sending friend requests to unsuspecting girls in Facebook through a fake account. Once they accept his request, Nayak would take their pictures, edit them into nude pictures and post them on his fake account.

The matter came to the fore after one such minor girl filed a complaint against Nayak at the Cyber Police Station.

The police are currently investigating the case to ascertain whether there are any other girls fallen victim to Nayak.

Recently, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Odisha Crime Branch had cracked an interstate cyber-crime gang involved in cheating people by running OLX, job and sextortion racket.

Earlier, cybercriminals had allegedly duped a resident of Jatni in Khordha district and swindled Rs 71,000 from him impersonating an IPS officer in October this year.

Of late, Odisha has been witnessing an increase in cybercrime with multiple cases being reported from Bhubaneswar and Cuttack frequently. Three persons in the twin cities have allegedly been duped of around Rs 10 lakh by cybercriminals in the month of September too.
