Locked Inside Panchayat Office Complex, Odisha Girl Rescued After 10 Hours

Angul: Locals on Saturday rescued a girl who was reportedly locked inside the Rajiv Gandhi Seva Kendra in panchayat office complex of Angul district. The girl, who was rescued after 10 hours, alleged that she was tortured and raped by one Chakradhar Mohapatra.

According to reports, both the accused and the girl were into a relationship for the past 10 years. The accused Chakradhar, who works as a peon at the Centre, had reportedly called the girl to the place yesterday.

Chakradhar allegedly raped the girl and fled the spot by tying her hands and legs. It was only in the evening yesterday that the local residents rushed to the spot after hearing the girl's screams.

“He (Chakradhar) had called me to that place. When I insisted on marriage, he thrashed me. When I took out my mobile to call my parents, he snatched my phone,” alleged the victim.

Local residents, on the other hand, demanded a detailed probe as the accused is absconding after the incident.

“We want justice for the girl. If no action is taken in connection with the incident, we will gherao the block and the panchayat office,” said Anil Mohanty, a local resident.

Based on the complaint filed by the victim at Nalco Nagar Police Station, police have started a probe into the incident.
