Class VIII Girl Student Raped By School Teacher

Jajpur: A class VIII girl student was allegedly raped by her school teacher in Binjharpur area of Jajpur. The accused Smrutiranjan Jena, identified as the English teacher in the concerned school, has been arrested by police.

The matter came to fore after the family members of the minor girl lodged a complaint with the Lalbag Police in Cuttack.

As per the complaint, the incident took place after the teacher took the girl to his house on the pretext of taking tuition classes. After they reached his house, Jena raped her following which she lost her consciousness, the family alleged.

Soon after the incident, the girl was rushed to SCB Medical College & Hospital in Cuttack in a critical condition.

Based on the complaint filed by the family at the the Lalbag police station, officials of the PS immediately apprised the matter to Binjharpur police. Later, police launched a manhunt and subsequently Jena was arrested from Binjharpur area.

“The parents of the girl have filed a case and brought rape charges against Smrutiranjan Jena, who is our English Teacher. I heard about the incident last night after he was arrested. I don’t know anything about what has happened as he is absent since many days. But we haven’t received any complaint from her family in this regard,” said Headmaster Parsuram Samal.
