Youth arrested over rape & murder of minor girl in Kandhamal

Kandhamal: Three days after a minor girl's body was found in a water tank at Katedikia village under Mandakia panchayat in Raikia police limits of the district, police today arrested a youth on charges of raping and murdering the girl. During interrogation, accused Sumanta Diggal admitted his crime.

As per reports, the body of a minor girl was recovered from a water tank in Katedikia village on March 16 following which police initiated a probe.

During the course of investigation, police interrogated some villagers who informed that they had seen both of them quite a few times since Shivratri. Acting on a tip-off, Police today arrested Diggal and took him in custody.

"We arrested him on the basis of the statements of some villagers who had seen the girl with the youth. He was initially denying the charges but later when there were evidences, he admitted his crime," said G. Udaygiri SDPO, Jaykrushna Behera.

Diggal reportedly had been in a physical relationship with the minor girl since months and decided to kill her after discovering that she was three months pregnant with his child, police sources said.
