Sonepur: A woman was allegedly burnt alive by her in-laws over dowry at Binikapara area in Sonepur district of Odisha. According to the allegations levelled by the family members of the deceased woman, she was being tortured by her in-laws for dowry.

"My daughter was tortured by her in-laws who had been repeatedly demanding dowry since long. I gave them a gold necklace but still they used to demand more money and other items. They have killed my daughter," alleged father of the deceased, Pradeep Sahu.

On the other hand, after finding her engulfed in flames, in-laws of the woman have claimed that they couldn't get an ambulance so they brought a rickshaw to admit her to the hospital. However, she reportedly breathed her last at the hospital.

"We immediately called up ambulance services, but the hospital authorities first said that there was no ambulance. Later, they said the driver of the ambulance was not present. We then requested several auto drivers but no one helped us. We then carried her on a rickshaw," said brother-in-law of the deceased.

Besides, it was also alleged that the body remained unattended outside the hospital on the rickshaw for the entire night.

Meanwhile, police have detained the husband of the deceased for interrogation. No comments could be obtained from the in-laws of the deceased and the hospital authorities over the allegations.
