Balasore: In a tragic consequence of a family quarrel, a woman was allegedly beaten to death by her husband at Adangi village under Balasore Sadar police limits today.

The woman identified as Anjali Das was initially admitted to the Balasore hospital in a critical condition and later shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack where she succumbed.

As per reports, Anjali was married to Amulya Das, who was working at a private organisation in Surat. However, a few days after the marriage, Amulya used to beat Anjali suspecting her of having an affair with another person.

Two days back, Amulya thrashed Anjali following which she went to her parents' house. However, she returned after an amicable discussion. Sources said Amulya again thrashed Anjali and hit her on her head leading to critical injuries.

“There used to be frequent quarrels between the husband and wife. He (Amulya) used to suspect her of having an illicit relationship and beat her up in inebriated condition. Two days back he had attacked her causing grievous injuries. I took her to the hospital for treatment and thereafter took her back to Amulya's house. However, again today I got a phone call about the incident. Later I informed the police about the matter,” said Ratikant Das, Amulya’s younger brother.
