Woman arrested for killing daughter over land dispute

Bolangir: A woman was arrested by police on charges of killing her daughter at Bharuamunda village under Belpada panchayat in Bolangir district today.

Sources said the arrested woman is the stepmother of the seven-year-old minor girl and has committed the crime over property dispute with her husband. The accused will be forwarded to court later in the day, sources added.

Earlier, on Thursday, the dead body of girl was found from the water tank of her house. According to reports, the minor girl, daughter of one Pradip Meher of the village had gone missing since Thursday morning. Later during a search the family members found her body in the water tank.

“When I returned home from work, my daughter was missing. We began a frantic search and found her dead body in the water tank. My wife killed the kid,” alleged Meher.

On basis of a complaint lodged at the Patnagarh Sub-Divisional Police Station the woman was arrested today.
