Woman alleges rape by husband of Jajpur Zilla Parishad

Jajpur: A woman was allegedly raped by a political leader in Dasarathpur block of Jajpur district. The accused, Damodar Rout has been identified as husband of a Zilla Parishad member of the district.

The woman alleged that she was abducted and raped by Rout on January 24 following which she had lodged an FIR at Mangalpur police station. “After registering the case, the police officials took me for medical examination. However, the IIC of Mangalpur police station said as Rout is a powerful and influential leader, they cannot arrest him,” alleged the woman.

Later, she met the Jajpur Superintendent of Police and sought his intervention in connection with the case.

Meanwhile, Additional SP Akshay Kumar Dash assured that an investigation will be initiated into the incident and appropriate legal action will be taken against the accused.

“I have asked the concerned authorities to submit the medical reports. If the reports suggest that the woman was raped, legal action will be taken against the accused,” informed Dash.

On the other hand, Rout was not available for comments regarding the case.
