Cuttack: Commissionerate Police on Sunday arrested two persons including a broker on the charges of looting a gold bar worth Rs 36 lakhs from a Balasore based jeweller in Cuttack city.

The arrestees have been identified as Rajkishore Sahu and Jitendra Sahu of Jajpur district.

As per reports, the accused duo had contacted the Balasore jeweller, identified as Santosh Kumar Rana to provide ornaments in lieu of the gold bar weighing 800 grams.

A senior official of Purighat Police station said that the broker Rajkishore Sahu used to procure gold and supply to various jewellery shops in the city. On March 9, Sahu contacted the jeweller to provide 1200 grams of gold ornaments.

"After arriving in Cuttack with the gold bar, Rajkishore along with Jitendra took the gold bar to a hallmarking centre at Choudhry bazar on the pretext of testing the quality of the yellow metal," said ACP Satyanarayan Muduli.

Muduli further said that the jeweller subsequently lodged a complaint with Purighat police station on March 11 after he failed to trace the duo.

Later, the cops managed to nab both the accused on the charges of cheating the jeweller. The gold bar has also been recovered from the accused and they were produced before the court today.
