Khurda: The Forest officials on Saturday arrested two poachers from Chilka Lake area and recovered carcasses of 57 migratory birds from their possession. However, five others managed to escape during the raid by forest department officials.

As per reports, the forest officials also rescued three live birds from the two poachers.

Based on allegations of rampant poaching of birds from Tangi area in Khurda district, a team of forest officials conducted raids and arrested the two poachers from near Kuda- 1 in Chilika Lake area. The identity of the two arrested is yet to be ascertained. However, five others present at the spot managed to escape.

The forest officials have also recovered 500 bullets, one gun and one boat from their possession, added reports.

Earlier on November 27, one person was arrested on charges of killing 13 migratory birds in Chilika. He was arrested from Abhimanpur under Tangi Wildlife Range while he was transporting the carcasses of the Northern Pintails on a motorcycle.
