Bhubaneswar: It seems that the blocking and checking drive of Commissionerate Police is having no impact on the robbers as cases of loot continue unabated in the Smart city. Two back-to-back incidents which were reported in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday corroborate this.

Panic gripped Gadakona area in the city after unidentified miscreants looted cash, gold ornaments and other valuables from a couple here by brandishing guns.

The miscreants reportedly intercepted the couple while they were on their way to the railway station in an auto-rickshaw this morning at around 5AM. As soon as the auto-rickshaw stopped, the robbers terrorized the couple and looted cash and gold ornaments from them at gun point.

“Two miscreants threatened us at gun point while another asked for money and other valuables. They took away everything including ear rings and chain of my wife. We do not feel safe anymore,” said complainant, Umakant Mishra.

“The location is surrounded by a lot of educational institutions including KV-3 and other housing colonies. How will any girl or a resident feel safe if such incidents occur at market areas,” said Suprabha, Umakant's wife.

In another incident, a retired bank employee was targeted by miscreants while he out for a morning walk in Adimata Colony. The robbers reportedly snatched his gold ring at gun point.

Local residents, meanwhile, have alleged that the entire blocking and checking by Commissionerate Police is restricted to main streets, as such criminals are targeting people in lanes and by-lanes of the city.
