Theft of Rs 10 lakh ornaments: Accused escapes from Police custody

Balasore: A youth, accused of stealing gold and diamond ornaments worth over Rs 10 lakh from the residence of Delhi-based businessman, allegedly escaped from police custody. As per reports, the accused Karunakar Das was arrested from Raghunathpur village under Soro block by a special team of Adarsh Nagar Police of Delhi yesterday.

Sources said Das reportedly gave the cops a slip at Balasore Railway station while he was being taken to the national capital.

Karunakar was working as a domestic help at the house of a Delhi-based businessman, Ravindra Kumar Khari. On June 4, Karunakar allegedly went absconding after stealing the gold and diamond ornaments from the house of his employer.

Later, Ravindra had lodged a complaint with Adarsh Nagar Police Station in connection with the theft of ornaments. Carrying out probe into the matter, a three-member team of Adarsh Nagar Police arrested Karunakar from his native village in Balasore district yesterday.
