Kalahandi: Almost seven months after the murder of one Suryakanti Behera of Pragati Nagar in Matigaon village under Junagarh police limits of the district, police today said the case has been cracked with the arrest of two persons. The incident had happened on February 18 earlier this year.

What's shocking is that during the course of investigation police found that Suryakanti's co-sister Chandrakanti had hired a contract killer Tankadhar Pandey to kill her due to some family dispute.

As per police sources, the duo planned to kill Suryakanti when her husband Someswar was out of town to attend a marriage function.

Reportedly, Tankadhar first slit Suryakanti's throat and later crushed her head with a stone which led to her death.

Someswar returned home only to find his wife lying in a pool of blood, revealed sources.

In a complaint lodged with the Junagarh Police, he had alleged that a few unidentified miscreants barged inside their house to loot valuables and attacked her following which she died on the spot.

However, police initiated a serious investigation ruling out the possibilities of robbery as the miscreants did not loot any valuables from their home.

“It was a case of family dispute. The accused have been arrested. As per the investigation, Chandrakanti was in touch with the killer and the boy has also confessed to have received Rs 25,000 from her after the incident took place. All this happened when Suryakanti was alone in her house,” said Himanshu Mishra, DSP Crime Branch.
