Shame again! Another minor girl raped in Odisha, accused absconding

Kandhamal: In another shameful incident which has raised questions on the security of girls in Odisha, a Class VII student was allegedly raped by a college going youth of her locality under Belghar police limits in Kandhamal district. The matter came to light after the family members of the girl lodged an FIR at police station on Saturday.

The family members of the girl also alleged that the youth had threatened them of dire consequences if they lodge a police complaint.

Meanwhile, the youth is absconding and a manhunt has been launched to nab him, police said after registering a case in connection with the incident.

According to the complaint, the minor girl was raped in December 2018 when she had come home from her residential school during vacations.

Sources said the youth had also threatened the girl not to reveal the incident to anybody. Out of fear, the girl returned to her hostel without bringing the incident to the notice of her parents.

Later, school authorities sent the girl back after she fell sick. Subsequently, the family members lodged the police complaint after she narrated her ordeal.
