Bhubaneswar: After facing flak from all quarters over the rise in loot incidents in Bhubaneswar, the Commissionerate Police has pulled up its socks to restore law and order in the Smart City and launched a massive crackdown to nab five criminals in the span of last two days.

In a fresh incident, the Commissionerate Police has arrested a dreaded criminal named Rabi Rao after an encounter in Bharatpur area of Bhubaneswar. Rao who sustained bullet injuries on his leg has been admitted to Capital Hospital.

Earlier late on Saturday night, cops were successful in nabbing two notorious criminals- Sipun Kabi & Harekrushna Swain following an encounter at around 2:45 AM near Badagada area.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of Dhauli Police raided room number 208 of Bapuji Height apartment near Dhauli and busted an illegal liquor racket run by both Sipun and Harekrushna. During the raid, the cops seized huge cache of liquor and labels of several brands apart from liquor packing and manufacturing unit.

However, the accused criminal duo  tried to escape from the clutches of the police. Later, the cops chased and nabbed both of them after a brief exchange of fire. Both Sipun and Harekrushna, who sustained bullet injuries, were shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

Police sources said the duo was part of a major criminal gang involved in series of loot and other crimes in Bhubaneswar and nearby districts. Earlier, two members of the same gang identified as Arun Mallick alias Poda and Vivekananda Nayak alias Vivek were nabbed after an encounter on Friday night.
