Rourkela: The Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel today seized two suitcases containing Rs 2.23 crore cash at Rourkela railway station and arrested three persons in connection with the case. The accused have been identified as Sanjay Gupta, Sunil Kumar and Rajan Srivastav.

The accused, who were reportedly trying to escape with the cash filled suitcases, were intercepted by the GRP. During a search, the personnel seized the cash and inquired them about the source of the money. After the trio failed to provide satisfactory explanations, the GRP arrested them.

Preliminary investigation revealed that on March 3, cash bag of one Kolkata-based businessman Gaurav Kumar was robbed while he was travelling in a train in between Jharsuguda and Rourkela. Following the robbery, a case was registered at Jharsuguda Government Railway Police Station.

However, it is unclear whether the seized cash belongs to Kumar. Further probe into the matter is underway.
