Cuttack: An attempt by a group of miscreants to execute robbery at State Bank of India (SBI) branch located at Mangalabag area in Cuttack was foiled on Thursday night after security alarm of the bank went off.

As per reports, three to four bike-borne miscreants broke into the bank by breaking the shutters. Though the robbers managed to sneak into the branch manager's chamber, they failed to break open lockers and had to flee after the security alarms went off.

On finding the doors of the bank broken in the morning, the house owner alerted the bank authorities. Later, the Mangalabag police reached the bank and launched a probe into the matter.

On the other hand, the SBI chief manager informed that no cash was stolen from the bank.

"The bank security guard called me at around 5 AM and informed that three to four persons tried to rob the bank but fled as the security alarm went off. The police team, which was patrolling in the area, tried to nab the miscreants but failed. The miscreants have broken the iron shutters of the bank, " said Nrusingh Charan Chowdhury, house owner.
"The security guards informed me about the incident. I rushed to the branch and found that no cash was looted from the bank," informed the branch manager Bhabani Shankar Mohanty.

Senior Police officials informed that already a probe into the failed robbery bid is underway.

"The miscreants broke the locks of iron shutter and entered the bank. However, the bank’s strong room is undamaged," informed Inspector-in-charge of Mangalabag Police Station, Amitabh Mohapatra.
