Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Thursday arrested two persons from a shopping mall while the duo was shopping after robbing a house in VSS Nagar area of the city, thanks to a mobile message.

According to sources, the thieves had barged into the house of an elderly woman living alone in the VSS Nagar area of the city and decamped with ornaments, other valuables including bank debit cards at gunpoint and fled the spot.

On receiving information, the Saheed Nagar police traced the movement of the thieves with GPS tracking of the message received after the robbers withdrew cash from an ATM with the help of the looted debit card.

A special team of police squad caught the looters red handed while they were trying to buy laptops and mobile phones from a home appliances showroom in Patia.

After investigation, police found that the robbers had stolen 100 gms of gold ornament, Rs 20,000 cash and other valuables from the elderly woman.

“I was watching TV when two youths barged into the house and gagged my mouth with tape. They threatened me to remain quiet by putting a gun on my head and snatched my necklace and some other gold ornaments,” the complainant Malabika Chand said.

An investigation to find out the involvement of the accused in any other cases of robbery is underway.
