Sharmili Mallick

Puri: The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court on Tuesday sent a retired railway employee to jail for allegedly sexually harassing his daughter-in-law in Pipili area of Puri district.

The accused identified as Panchu Mallick was sent to Nimapada Sub-Jail for 14 days after the JMFC Court rejected his bail plea.

On August 11, the woman, a resident of Satasankha area in Pipili had lodged a police complaint levelling allegations of sexual harassment against Panchu. She had also brought dowry harassment charges against her husband and other in-laws.
Based on the complaint filed by the woman, a team of Pipili Police arrested Panchu and produced him before the JMFC Court yesterday.

On the other hand, the accused Panchu has refuted the allegations and said, “I have been wrongly framed in the case and I have nothing to do about it.”

Government Lawyer at JMFC Court Prasanna Kumar Champati informed, “A case has been registered under Sections 376(2) which is triable by the Court of Sessions. Therefore, the Judicial Magistrate cannot grant bail in this case."
