Rayagada: The district police today arrested two persons on charges of being involved in looting a businessman near Andhra Bank branch at New Colony in Rayagada town on January 4.

Briefing mediapersons, Rahul PR, SP of Rayagada said two accused Durga Das and Aulu Kali, involved in the incident have been apprehended and will be forwarded to the court. The duo are residents of Aksa area in Ganjam district.

On January 4, two bike-borne miscreants waylaid the businessman named Sriram Gantayat, while the latter was returning after withdrawing the cash from the bank and allegedly looted Rs 9 lakh from his possession.

After the instructions from the SP, a special team of police was formed to nab the accused. Acting on a tip off on the movement of the accused and with the help of evidences from CCTV footages along with mobile tracker, the cops arrested Durga Das from Aska and nabbed Akua from Kotapeta area in Rayagada. Police have recovered cash of Rs 4 lakh, a mobile and a pulsar bike from their possession.

We will further investigate to trace the remaining amount of looted money. It is suspected that the accused have spent nearly one lakh and handed over the rest 4 lakh to another person, so we are probing to get back the amount, said SP Rahul PR.

The SP also added that bank authorities have been cautioned to strengthen the security and also ensure CCTV facilities at all branches.
