Bhadrak: A youth, who was detained at Basudevpur Police Station in Bhadrak district on charges of raping a minor girl on Saturday, allegedly escaped from police custody on Sunday. Sources said the accused identified as Gagan of Narendrapur village in the district is an Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) constable.

Gagan escaped from the police station on the pretext of attending nature’s call in the early hours today, reports said.

Sources said police had detained Gagan yesterday on the charges of raping a minor girl with whom he was into a relationship.

Meanwhile, IIC of Basudevpur Police Station Uma Sankar Nayak refuted the allegations and said efforts are on to nab the accused.

“We have registered a case after receiving the complaint from the minor girl. Acting on tip-off about his presence, we had raided his house but could not trace him. However, efforts are on to nab him at the earliest,” said Nayak.
