Bhubaneswar: Excise sleuths today arrested a person and recovered 105 grams of brown sugar worth Rs 10 lakh from his possession. During interrogation, the accused, identified as Khirod Sahu of Laxmisagar area revealed that he was working as a ‘police informer’.

Though Sahu himself was selling drugs illegally for past few years to make quick bucks, he used to provide tip-offs to police about other peddlers in the city, sources said.

As Sahu was working as an informer, he was never under the police scanner for being involved in the illicit narcotics trade. Senior Excise department officials informed that Sahu is being interrogated to elicit more information about his illegal trade.

On February 7, the Excise officials arrested a woman on charges of selling brown sugar in Bari area under Khandagiri Police limits in Bhubaneswar.Acting on a tip-off, the sleuths managed to nab the woman from the busy market area and seized 21 grams of brown sugar along with Rs 5,000 cash from her possession.

On February 1, a joint team of Laxmisagar police and Quick Action Team (QAT) seized brown sugar weighing 19.4 grams from a woman of Haladipadia slum in Bhubaneswar.
