Balasore: In yet another incident of sexual assault against minor girls, a Plus II girl student of Gopalpur College here was allegedly drugged and raped by a man at Digbhanra village under Khandapada police limits in Balasore district. The accused identified as Kanhucharan Jena of the village is absconding.

Though the incident had taken place on July 28, the matter came to fore after the family members of the rape survivor filed a complaint at the Khandapada police station today.

Based on the complaint filed, police registered a case and later sent the girl for medical examination.

Meanwhile, sources claimed that both the survivor and the rape accused were known to each other as residents of the girl’s village treated Jena as their son-in-law after he married a girl of the same village.

The family members of the girl, in the complaint, alleged that Jena took their daughter to his village while she was going to her college. Later, he drugged her and raped her several times, the family alleged.

On gaining consciousness, the girl somehow managed to escape and rush back to her house. After she narrated the ordeal to her parents, they informed the matter to the village head following which a meeting was also organised yesterday. However, as the meeting remained inconclusive, the parents were forced to lodge a complaint with the police today.

Khandapada police station Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) Sriballav Sahoo who rushed to the spot for investigation, said, “A manhunt has been launched by the police to nab the culprit. Further investigation is on.”
