Cuttack: Commissionerate Police arrested a man on charges of kidnapping and extortion in Cuttack. The arrested person has been identified as Anand Ram.

According to reports, Ram had demanded Rs 10 lakh as extortion from a trader after kidnapping him. Later a police complaint was filed at the Jagatpur Police Station in this regard.

Based on the complaint, police launched an investigation and arrested Ram. Police have also seized a car from his possession, informed sources.

“A trader was kidnapped by the accused who took him to a lonely place in Choudwar. Later Ram thrashed him black and blue and robbed his money and other valuables. The accused has been arrested and forwarded to court.” Cuttack DCP, Akhileshwar Singh said.

Reportedly, many criminal cases are pending against Ram at different police stations and a warrant was also issued against him.

Singh further informed that police have initiated a probe into the incident and if required he might be taken on remand to elicit more information.
