Odisha Youth Murders Stepmother For Insurance Money

Kendrapara: A youth in Odisha landed behind bars for allegedly killing his stepmother to usurp Rs 2.5 lakh insurance money which was sanctioned after his father’s death. The shocking incident was reported from Chhakana village in Kendrapara district.

As per reports, the accused Santosh Biswal strangulated his stepmother Sasmita Biswal to death and later dumped her body in Luna River to give it a colour of suicide. Apart from Santosh, Sadar Police also arrested his wife Debasmita and friend Dukhishyam Nayak.

At a presser, Kendrapara SP Niti Sekhar informed that a missing complaint was initially filed by the victim's daughter on August 12. After body of a woman was recovered from Luna River on August 18, it was identified to be that of missing Sasmita.

“Soon after the body was found, a probe was initiated and finally we managed to nab three persons including the stepson of the deceased,” said Niti Sekhar.

Niti Sekhar further stated that on the day of incident, Santosh had called two of his friends-Dukhishyam Nayak and Dipak Rout to his house. Later, Santosh and Dipak strangulated the woman with a saree.

“After strangulating Sasmita, Santosh and others placed the body in a gunny bag and later threw it into Luna River off Baspur Bridge. One person is absconding while further investigation in connection with the murder case is still on,” added Niti Sekhar.
