Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police on Monday claimed to have executed as many as 3988 non-bailable warrants which were pending at various police stations across the State during a week-long special drive.

As per an official release, all the 3988 persons were arrested following a special drive launched by Odisha Police between March 7 and 14.

Senior officials said that the main aim of the drive was to bring the absconders, who were avoiding trial, to justice. Special attention was given to cases where NBW was pending for long, especially in GR & ST cases.

Some of the accused persons arrested during this drive were successful evading law and were absconding for years together. About 3395 warrants were in GR and ST cases and remaining 593 in other cases, the release added.

Of the total 3988 non-bailable warrants, Ganjam police has executed a maximum of 452 non-bailable warrants, followed by Kendrapara (307) and Balasore (298).
