Odisha Police ASI Arrested For ‘Raping’ Woman

Puri: Pipili Police in Puri district today arrested the assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Balanga Police Station on charges of raping a woman. The accused cop who has been identified as Chittaranjan Das was arrested following hours of interrogation. Police had detained him on Thursday night for questioning.

Police arrested Chittaranjan based on an FIR lodged by a 30-year-old-woman yesterday. The complainant had met Pipili SDPO seeking action against the ASI.

The woman, in her FIR, had claimed that she along with her husband had approached Chittaranjan over a family dispute six months back. During the course of investigation her husband was reportedly arrested and sent to the jail. Three months back, the ASI allegedly called her to his quarters on the pretext of resolving the matter and raped her.

Chittaranjan, on the other hand, has pleaded innocence. “It is a conspiracy against me as I had arrested her husband earlier,” he claimed.
