Bhubaneswar: One person has been arrested from Jajpur district for allegedly trying to sell Deer antlers by on OLX website. The accused has been identified as Devi Prasanna Behera, a resident of Kotapur in Jajpur district.

On getting information, a special team of the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau laid a trap and nabbed the accused with the help of Bari forest range officials. According to reports, Behera had posted the advertisement to sell the Deer Antler at a cost of Rs 20,300.

Though it is still unclear from where Behera got the antlers, further investigation in this connection is on, senior forest department officials said.

Recently during a high-level meeting-cum-workshop organised in Bhubaneswar, concerns were expressed over rising incidents of wildlife poaching and smuggling of live animals from Odisha.

While addressing the workshop, chief of Wildlife Crime Control Bureau, Tilottama Verma had informed that several endangered wildlife species including many from Odisha are under serious threat from several international racketeers especially from South East Asia, China, European Union as well as the Middle East.

Verma further stated that pangolin has become critically ‘endangered’ as earlier scales were being smuggled, but now live animals are being trafficked outside the country.
