Odisha Man Gets 10-Yr Imprisonment For Raping Divyang Girl

Paralakhemundi: Gajapati District & Session Judge Court on Monday convicted and awarded 10-year jail term to one Anant Paik for raping a divyang girl multiple times in Serang area of Gajapati district.

The court has also directed the accused to pay a fine of Rs 5000, failing which he will have to serve another six-month jail term.

"The court convicted Anant Paik and slapped a fine of Rs 5,000. In the event of non-payment of the penalty amount, he will undergo an additional jail term of six months," informed public prosecutor, Sarat Chandra Pradhan.

It is pertinent to mention here that family members of the rape survivor had lodged a case against Paik in 2018 after coming to know that he had sexually assaulted the divyang repeatedly.

Based on the complaint, Serang Police had filed a chargesheet against Anant and arrested him on February 6, 2019.
