Sundergarh: Rohit Verma, son of a leading jeweller in the town was shot dead by unidentified miscreants in-front of his shop near Badagaon bus terminal in Sundergarh district on Monday.

Another person, who tried to save Verma, has been critically wounded after he came under fire as the miscreants took away a bag containing gold ornaments which the deceased was carrying.

As per reports, three bike-borne miscreants fired two rounds at Verma moments after the latter arrived at his shop in the morning to open.

A passerby who witnessed the macabre incident, rushed to Verma’s help taking a bullet on self.

After the miscreants fled both Verma and the other wounded were man rushed to the Badagaon hospital and later shifted to IGH in Rourkela after their condition deteriorated.

However, Verma later succumbed to the bullet injuries he had suffered on his head and stomach.

The daylight murder of the jeweller’s son has nevertheless created unrest in the locality, traders in particular who are demanding the immediate arrest of the culprits involved in the incident.

Senior police officials informed that a pistol belonging to the miscreants which fell on the road during the firing incident has been recovered.

A detailed probe has been launched to nab the miscreants involved in the ghastly murder, police said.
