Khurda: A girl was allegedly raped and dumped on the National Highway in front of Prananath Autonomous College in Khurda on Wednesday night.

The survivor, who was rescued in critical condition, has lodged a police complaint in this regard.

According to sources, some unidentified miscreants dumped the girl on the NH yesterday and fled. Later, Fire Services personnel and locals rescued the girl and admitted her to hospital.

While the identities of the miscreants are yet to be ascertained, Khurda superintendent of police (SP), sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) and inspector-in-charge of local police station visited the hospital and inquired about the health condition of the survivor. The officials also questioned the girl about the incident.

The girl lodged a complaint in this regard at around 1.30 AM. In her complaint, she alleged that there were two persons in the car and one of them raped her.

As the incident took place near Kalinga Vihar area in Bhubaneswar, officials of Khandagiri Police Station were informed. Later, the inspector-in-charge of Khandagiri visited the hospital and met the survivor.

Following the complaint, police launched a probe and a manhunt is underway to nab the accused. “I was passing through the area when I saw the girl lying on the road. I rushed to the spot and offered her water. When she regained her consciousness, she broke down and said something bad happened to her,” said Kamalakanta Jaisingh, an eyewitness.

Bhubaneswar DCP informed that a case has been registered on transfer on point of jurisdiction from Khurda in Khandagiri police station. “Accused has been apprehended and car seized. Investigation is on. Senior officers are monitoring investigation,” informed DCP through a tweet.
