Bhubaneswar: A day after crores of rupees were seized from a car in Mahasamund area in Chhattisgarh, Odisha DGP Rajendra Prasad Sharma on Wednesday informed that the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Odisha Crime Branch will investigate the case based on the fact that the vehicle was en route to Agra from Odisha when four persons were nabbed with the cash.

“As per the statement given by the four arrested persons, they lifted the money from Cuttack or Bhubaneswar. However, we are investigating from whom they took the money and what was the purpose behind it. After a detailed probe, the entire matter will be clear,” stated the DGP adding that the Crime Branch will extend full support to Chhattisgarh police in investigating the case.

Meanwhile, the Mahasamund police in Chhattisgarh is interrogating the four persons to elicit more information from them.

On Tuesday, during a routine vehicle checking at the highway, the Mahasamund police found Rs 10.90 crore in Rs 2000, Rs 500, Rs 200 and Rs 100 denominations stashed in an inbuilt safe hidden inside the rear seat of a luxury car. The car was reportedly going to Agra from Odisha.

Later when the four persons- Banwari Singh, Prahlad Baghel, Mohammed Ibrahim and Nazma Khan, all residents of Agra, failed to give satisfactory answers about the source of money, the police immediately seized the cash and arrested them.
