Bolangir:  In a major breakthrough, four persons were arrested on Thursday in connection with the brutal murder of a couple in a kangaroo court over ‘witchcraft suspicion’ in Chiktamal village within Larambha Police limits in Bolangir on September 16.

The accused- Narayan Bariha, Swarup Ghibhela, Gouranga Podh and Krushna Bariha- have confessed to the crime, informed Bolangir SP Sandip Sampad.

Senior police officials informed that all the four accused along with other villagers had beaten Chitamani Bariha and his wife Rukmini to death on September 16.

The bodies of the deceased, Chintamani Bariha and his wife Rukmini, stuffed in a sack, were found inside a forest some two kilometres away from the village on the same day.

“One of the accused Narayan Bariha’s son had died a month back. Suspecting that his son died due to black magic by Rukmini and her husband, Narayan along with others attacked the couple with wooden planks and killed them” said Sampad.
