Jagatsinghpur: In a major development in the murder case of nurse Niharika Patra, her friend and accused Kishore Chandra Anchal alias Raja, surrendered before the police today.

Raja was absconding after body of the 23-year-old victim, who worked as a paramedical staff at a private nursing home in Cuttack was found from Biluakhai riverbed in Jagatsinghpur on Tuesday.

As per reports, police have collected blood samples of Niharika's parents and sent to Capital hospital in Bhubaneswar for DNA test for identification of the body.

"I demand justice for my daughter. She was the sole bread earner of our family. I don't know how we will live without her," said Niharika's mother.

It is being said that Niharika and Kishore were in a relationship and decided to marry each other. While police interrogation of the accused is currently underway, it is yet to be ascertained under what circumstances she was murdered.

On suspicion that her friend Kishore was behind the murder, Biridi Police had interrogated the family members of Raja, including his father, brother and four friends on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, BJP State Secretary Lekhashree Samantsinghar alleged police negligence in the case and slammed the State government alleging rise in cases of crime against women across Odisha.

"When police could have arrested the accused after Niharika's body was found, why they let him go? Is Niharika's family not included in the 4.5 crore people of Odisha that CM Naveen claimed to be his family?" questioned Samantsinghar.
