Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Crime Branch arrested two persons including a Nigerian national in New Delhi for allegedly duping a woman from Puri to the tune of Rs 41 lakh. The duo has been brought to Bhubaneswar on a three-day remand for interrogation.

The arrested persons have been identified as Nwabueze Chukwudi Vincet (35) of Nigeria and Piyush Arya (22) of East Babarpur in New Delhi. Police have also seized incriminating articles, electronic gadgets and documents from their possession.

As per the complaint, the woman, a resident of Puri came in contact with one of the two accused through Facebook. The accused used to send her valuable gifts including money, laptops and ornaments. The complainant alleged that she had also deposited Rs 41 lakh on different occasions into different accounts of the fraudsters to get the gifts. But after she realized that she was being cheated, she lodged an FIR at Puri cyber crime police station.

Based on the complaint, the crime branch officials initiated an investigation and nabbed the two from New Delhi. Later, the accused were produced before Court of ACM Dwarka which granted permission to take the two on a three-day transit remand.

Both the fraudsters were produced before Puri Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court today. Further investigation is on.
